Immune Power Diet

The Immune Power Diet was created in the early 1980s by Dr. Stuart Berger. Berger’s book discussed ways to improve the immune system and heal yourself naturally through the proper diet. This diet appears not to be geared entirely towards people who wish to lose weight. However, in his book, Berger discussed his own weight loss from 420 to 210 pounds. Unfortunately, at the time of his death in 1994 at age 40, he weighed 365 pounds.

Currently, there is another “Immune Power Diet” being promoted by the British nutritionist Patrick Holford. Holford has written over ten books popular in the British market, including Boost Your Immune System and Say No to Cancer. His Immune Power Diet sticks to many of the foods that have already been cited as “immune-boosting,” including antioxidants. He also believes in many of the “old wives’ tales” regarding nutrition and illness, such as “Feed a cold, starve a fever.”
He recommends adding garlic, whole grains, and seeds to your diet in addition to five servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Holford also recommends eating as many organic, whole, and raw foods as you can, including shiitake mushrooms, which apparently have special immune-boosting power.
